Meet Our Board Of Directors

Bobbie Gribble, President
Bobbie has been with ART since 1999.  She is member of ART because she believe in it's mission to work towards creating a 'No Kill' Community.  Bobbie is impressed with ART's tremendous diversity; being involved in cat and dog adoptions, political advocacy, outreach to the local community and working to promote moving towards a 'no kill' community.

In addition to being President of ART, Bobbie is the President of her local neighborhood association.  She has 3 children, one husband, 4 dogs and one cat.  Bobbie’s favorite thing to do is to sit on the back porch with her animals while she reads a book or to work in her garden with her animals all around.

Debra Griggs, Vice President and ART Founder
Debra founded ART in 1999 because the Virginian Pilot wrote an article about the individual rescue efforts of her and her husband, Steve Ballard. That article provoked others in the community to call her and share that they, as individuals, were also dedicated to saving homeless animals in the community. Believing in the power of association, Debra invited everyone to a meeting in January of 1999, and ART was born. Debra is extremely proud to be associated with an organization that recognizes the importance of working closely with area shelters, SPCAs and other rescue groups, creating collective successes that would be unattainable by any singular group.  Debra is also passionate about the importance of advocacy in generating change, and spends a great deal of time networking with community leaders. She was the founding Chair of the Animal Welfare Coalition of Hampton Roads, a regional body of service providers who work collaboratively to address the needs of animals.  Debra serves on the Board of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, a state body whose Strategic Plan aims to end the killing of healthy, adoptable dogs & cats in VA by 2016; the Board of Virginia Voters for Animal Welfare, an organization focused on improving the laws for companion animals in VA; and also on the Animal Welfare Review Board for the City of Norfolk, a City Council appointment.  She is a top Realtor in Hampton Roads, managing the Norfolk RE/MAX Allegiance office and leading her own real estate team proudly known as “the Housedogs”!  In her spare time, she is happy just sitting on the deck with her husband Steve enjoying their beloved dogs.
Christine Korkalo, Vice President of Finances and Recording Secretary
Christine has been with ART since 2001. She was drawn to ART by a growing need to help the homeless animals in the Tidewater area. She first agreed to foster an ART dog, with whom subsequently she, her husband, and already resident dog fell in love. Cracker soon became a permanent resident in the Korkalo household. A great respect for ART's president Debra Griggs was the final deciding factor to join ART. Christine hopes to see ART grow as a respected animal rescue group, and that some day their efforts will eliminate the need for euthanasia as a form of animal population control. Christine also volunteers with the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Inc. and Edmarc Hospice for Children. Christine, her husband Chris, daughter Nora (born March 2005), daughter Lila (born January 2007), two dogs and cat reside in Virginia Beach. Christine enjoys gardening, scuba diving, hiking, and being a Mom to both human and animal children.

Sandra Marangoni, Treasurer
Sandra has been a member of ART since 2005, but was drawn to animal rescue in 2003 after adopting a very sick toy poodle from the Norfolk Animal Management Center (NAMC).  She was so committed to the growing need of foster homes for homeless animals that she convinced her husband to sell their condo.  They purchased a home with a big fenced yard so that her fosters would have room to run and play.  Because of Sandra’s commitment to animal rescue, it was not long before she volunteered her accounting background for the Treasurer position.  When not working with numbers or counting how many more days to her Outer Banks vacation she enjoys time with her husband Edward, Arnold (Bird), Patty, Hannah, Burton, China (dogs), gardening, photography and piano.

Tina Pittman, Membership Secretary
Tina has been a member of ART since the fall of 2004. She is involved with ART not only as the Membership Secretary but answers emails sent to the group, works with the newsletter, is Chairperson for our involvement with Festevents in downtown Norfolk, and is starting to work on getting involved with State Legislation for animal rights. Tina feels that ART is a group of people that are genuinely dedicated to helping animals and they are more than happy to get involved at any level to do so. When she's not busy with her ART activities, Tina likes to devote time to photography, woodworking, gardening, and crafts. At home Tina and her husband Tim have 2 dogs and 2 cats, all rescues.
Susan Corbitt, Foster Coordinator
In 1999 Susan's involvement with ART began when she agreed to foster a dog for founder Debra Griggs. Susan loves being able to make a difference in the lives of dogs, one at a time, as well as being part of an organization who strives to improve the lives of dogs and cats in the community Hampton Roads. She is the foster care coordinator and oversees voice mail. Her other interests include reading, animal behavior, and walking her own dogs. For the past twenty-five years Susan has been entertaining children of all ages with her storytelling in libraries , churches, schools, and special events.
  Jacque Smith, Member at Large
Jacque has been a member of ART since 2004.  In addition to serving on the board, Jacque serves as Member Coordinator for established members, helps with voice mail, heads up Greenbrier Petsmart adoption days with the dogs, helps with the cats at Plaza Trail Petsmart, and is the point of contact for volunteer interest.  In addition to being Mom to Molly who attends college, she also has 4 dogs; Hunter, Daisy, Jo and Pearl and 2 cats Amelia and Oliver.
Sara Cayce, Member at Large
Sara has been a member of ART since 2002.  She started off as a volunteer by handling dogs at the adoption events.  After fostering 2 kittens, she became a member.  Sara gets great joy fostering kittens.  She loves to tame feral kittens that animal control deems unadoptable.  Sara is also involved in Dachshund Rescue of North America. Volunteer time is also spent helping with the cats at Norfolk Animal Management.  When Sara is not involved with animals you will find her with a book, soaking up some sun or at the local tattoo shop getting another tattoo (11 to date).  At her house she has a husband Ian and 4 dogs, 4 cats and a Lovebird.
