Meeka

2015-08-03T13:02:59-04:00

After battling colon cancer, Meeka’s mama has been living off of disability and is barely able to get by. When Meeka got sick and stopped eating she knew she needed to get help for her “constant companion.” It was a matter of life and death. That is when Meeka’s mama contacted ART. ART was able to collect $533 in donations, covering the cost of diagnosis, hospitalization, and treatment for Meeka.

Coco

2015-10-22T04:55:36-04:00

Coco’s mama contacted ART for assistance after finding some lumps on Coco’s belly and chest. Fortunately the masses were not cancerous; however, they were causing Coco discomfort and needed to be removed. Despite the fact that Coco’s mama has been out of work for over a year due to a disability, she was able to come up with $500. ART gladly contributed the remaining amount needed to ensure that Coco could enjoy her life and be pain free.

Lolis

2015-08-01T23:22:24-04:00

Lolis was clearly in pain. Not only had she become unsteady on her feet, but she had started losing control of her bladder. It appeared that she was having an issue in her lower abdomen. While her owner was very concerned and wanted to get her treatment, a recent life change had left her with very limited resources. She was able to contribute $200, but the vet’s estimate was $360. Committed to ensuring that Lolis would get the tests and medication she needed to ease her pain, ART answered the call for help and raised the remaining $160 in donations.

Sheba

2015-08-01T23:20:56-04:00

Sheba is a happy girl with lots of energy! Unfortunately, while burning off some of that energy, she went running through the house, straight into a wall, breaking her leg! Sheba’s family took her to the vet, but the costly treatment was more than they could afford. Their income is limited because Sheba’s mama stays at home to care for her special needs son. Determined to get Sheba the care she needed, the family sold some of their belongings to raise money, but still fell short. That is when ART stepped in and raised $1000, making it possible for Sheba to get treatment to heal her leg.

Taco

2015-08-01T23:19:10-04:00

Little Taco’s owner knew something was wrong with him. He was having a hard time eating and it was apparent that he just was not feeling well. A trip to the vet revealed that Taco had developed a very painful tooth abscess. On disability, with an income of only $730 a month, Taco’s owner did not have the money to pay for Taco’s treatment. Through donations, ART collected $355 for Taco. Not only was he able to receive much needed dental care; Taco was also neutered!

Sally

2015-08-01T23:03:32-04:00

Poor Sally was suffering from back to back seizures. Sally’s mama had taken her to the vet for initial treatment, but in order to prevent future seizures, Sally needed bloodwork and more medication. Sally lives in a home with two young children who also have serious health issues; due to their needs, Sally’s mama, who has had Sally since she was a puppy, simply could not afford the expense of the additional testing and medication.  Heartbroken, she contacted ART for assistance. ART was able to raise $309 in donations for Sally’s care. Now that her seizures are under control, Sally is doing much better!

Baby Kitty

2015-10-22T05:05:12-04:00

Thanks to our wonderful donors and Sustaining members, we were able to help Baby Kitty and his mama, who just relocated to Hampton Roads and has not yet found a job. His papa was on deployment when Baby Kitty stopped eating and drinking. ART was able to send them to a vet where she got meds and fluids and is doing much better now. To those that contribute, thank you for all of your kindness!

44 Community Cats Fixed in April

2015-06-20T23:51:53-04:00

Spring season means kitten season! ART stepped up in a big way this month and addressed our community’s need to care for our ferals. This past Saturday we spayed/neutered and vaccinated 32 feral cats at No More Chasin’ Tails, bringing our total to 44 community cats fixed in April! All of the cats were trapped, fixed, monitored in recovery and returned home where they were found through our TNR program (trap, neuter, return). We spent over $2000 helping these community cats and we truly thank those who donated to make these surgeries possible. The need in our community is great and we need more funding to continue our efforts. Your donation of any size, small or large, can help us keep so many unsocialized cats out of shelters where their outcome is certain death. Donate here: https://artanimals.org/donate

Frank

2015-06-20T23:49:02-04:00

Frank was found as a tiny stray kitten by a compassionate young woman who took him into her home. Not long afterward, she lost her job and was unemployed for months. She recently found a job and is trying to get back on her feet, but Frank had a urinary blockage and she spent every penny she had helping him at the ER. They sedated and catherized him, gave him pain meds and sent him home with prescription food. A week later he was still struggling to urinate and needed further vet care. She had no money to spare so ART paid $164 for his vet visit, test, fluids and medication. When Frank is feeling better we will also see that he gets neutered. His owner is so very grateful because ART helped when no one else would respond. Thanks to our donors Frank is a happy kitty once again, and this compassionate woman will one day be in the place to pay it forward to help another cat in need.
