Community Outreach in July

2017-07-17T16:18:03-04:00

SpayHR and ART volunteers have been out and about in our Norfolk Pet Project neighborhoods, passing out flyers and talking to residents. Within a few days of our efforts last week, we received requests for spay/neuter appointments from at least four residents of Fairmount Park. Yesterday, our scheduling volunteer received an appointment request as we were still canvassing the neighborhood!

Being out in our target communities gives us the opportunity to talk with residents, many of whom have already spayed/neutered their animal companions. Before we even started yesterday afternoon, we encountered Choppy, an already neutered bully breed who was out for a walk with his person. Choppy was rescued from a neglectful home. Later in the evening, we ran into residents who attended one of our clinics earlier this year. They brought their dog, Trinity, to the April 15, 2012 clinic. They let us know that Trinity had bounced back from surgery quickly and is doing well.

This Saturday, July 28, 2012, SpayHR and PBAC volunteers will be attending the East Ocean View Block Party. Come out to meet some dogs and spread the word about responsible pet ownership and free and low-cost spay/neuter in our community.

Bisou & Jackson

2017-07-17T16:18:03-04:00

Owner’s Remarks

“I adopted Bisou(white Standard Poodle) from a local Poodle rescue in July 2009 as a companion for my rescue Sheltie, who unfortunately died of cancer in December 2010. She went into such a depression after he died that I became concerned for her health and reached out to the rescue network to help me find her another companion. Jackson (black labradoodle) came into our lives in January 2011 and all I can say is he rescued Bisou. His adoration of her was instant and they quickly became inseparable companions.”

Lomasi, Takoda and Ciquala

2017-07-17T16:18:03-04:00

Owner’s Remarks

Lomasi, Takoda and Ciquala were 3 of a litter of 13 Lab/Weimaraner mixes born on 8/25/2011. Unlike most of their siblings, these three puppies were quiet, gentle and loving. They loved to sit in your lap and get allthe attention while the other siblings would romp and play.

Jackson Skyler

2017-07-17T16:18:03-04:00

Owner’s Remarks

Jackson Skyler(Beagle/Lab mix) & his best beagle buddy Iowna Link(who is blind and managed to safely place herself by Jackson’s side on the play fort).
We adopted Jackson Aug 2, 2004 from the Peninsula SPCA. Named Jackson after my son’s mentor, Jack, and Skyler after the lady, Skye, who completed our adoption papers at the SPCA. My son had been asking for a dog since he was 3 and was finally old enough to help take part in the responsibility of caring for a dog. We went to the shelter and was sure he would pick out one of the newest cute baby puppies, but Jackson was the one he wanted (6mos old and still very cute)

Jackson was a member of the family from day 1-becoming my second child and a brother to my son-sleeping in the top bunk with him every night and going with us everywhere. He is now a service dog and Therapy dog and is very much a lover and gentle protector to all around him. He looks out for the little guy and gets along with everyone.

Scooby “Bentley” Doo

2017-07-17T16:18:03-04:00

Owner’s Remarks

This is my beagle boy, Scooby “Bentley” Doo

We adopted him October 24, 2010 after being returned from his first adopter at age 5 mos.

He also was injured prior to that while in foster care and got a neck injury (which makes him “bent”) at age 5 weeks which made him cry for hours from even little bumps to the head while playing. The vet originally thought he might have to be put down. But he was treated by a chiropractor and seen by a neurologist and allowed to heal at The Family Dog Club (Beagles to the Rescue). I fell in love with him over the summer while helping out there and he bonded with my son and other dog, so when he was returned after being adopted, I didn’t hesitate to request that he become part of our family.

Scooby “Bentley” Doo is so lovable and very well behaved (especially for a Beagle : ) He does have a nose that never quits, but when he gets into something he shouldn’t, he just gives me that little crooked look with a smile and I just have to give in.
